Cafe Año 3rd year Anniversary Promo

Cafe Año opened to public April 1, 2008 in Wesgate, Filinvest Alabang. It's just a few away from Ayala Alabang village and it's right next to Alabang Town Center. We were welcomed by Mr. Dionnie Guerrero, president of Cafe Año and oriented us about the the restaurant and the delicious dishes we are having. Cafe Año sounded Spanish but it's not a Spanish restaurant though they serve some Spanish dishes.
Chipirones

The menu comprises of Filipino dishes but there are also international dishes. We started of with appetizers. We tried the Chipirones. It's made up of squid, olive oil, and chili. After the chipirones, we were served with an original new dishes of Cafe Año.We started of with the Isda Ni Juan Tamad. We got curious why is it called Isda Ni Juan Tamad and when it was served, the presentation itself answered our curiousity. It is completely boneless and you won't need to slice it.
Isda Ni Juan Tamad

Another new original dish we devoured was the Crispy Kare-kare. It is a traditional kare-kare but using a fried liempo for meat. Another appetizer we were enticed at was the chicken skin. This is purely fried chicken skin.
Crispy Kare-kare

The Bistek is nothing new except they used angus beef which gave it a different flavor. For desserts, we tried different look at old Pinoy favorites like the Turon Mangga at Suman, and Maruya Ala Mode. For it's 3rd year anniversary, Cafe Ano is offering 50% discount on selected dishes on April 1, 2011. Cafe Ano is open from 7AM for breakfast. Breakfast menu is served all day. They also accept reservations for parties or corporate gatherings and they also cater. What I like about the place is that the dishes are like cooked at home with a twist on how the food was presented and served in a fine dining experience and you need not to go inside a mall. Below are the selections to choose from for the 3rd year anniversary promo.

GSM Flavors-Ang Flavor Ng Barkada

Have you heard of the TV sitcom named "Cheers"? Most of us haven't been born yet or just too young to watch but I'm sure your parents were aware of this. I got to see it on reruns. The sitcom is sets in a bar in Boston if I am not mistaken. Thus explains the title. It has a catchy opening song that's gonna makes sense to what I am going to blog about. I am quoting few lines from that song: "Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot/.../Sometimes you want to go/Where everybody knows your name/...

This is what I think when I was invited to the GSM Flavors iParty just held in the Shang Tower in Makati last March 25. It was only held in a unit where you just spend it with friends, old and new, and just hang out and chill. I was given a nametag so I can be identified. I got to listen to live music from acoustic performers then there were giveaways for those who can name all people the most in the event. There were also group games that gave us time to really laugh out loud. I also got to try the GSM flavors. What's great is that it's only flavored spirit meaning it has very low alcohol like you are just drinking soda. I even got to try the suggested different mixes for GSM flavors. You can choose a GSM flavor whether Apple or Lychee.

You too can have your own iParty. Just go to http://ginebraflavors.com/ and follow them on Facebook. GSM Flavors are available in selected 7-11, Mini-Stop, Andoks branches South Supermarket and Puregold stores in Metro Manila. Ginebra San Miguel is truly the flavor of the barkada. I leave you now with the opening theme of Cheers.

Cheers Opening Theme
Making your in the world today takes everything you got/Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot/Wouldn't you like to get away?/
Sometimes you want to go/Where everybody knows your name/and they're always glad you came/You wanna be where you can see/Our troubles are all the same/You wanna be where everybody knows your name/
You wanna go where people know/people are all the same/You wanna go where everybody knows your name.

Fine Portuguese Dining Experience at O'sonho

Jupiter branch in Makati
I was introduced to the Portuguese restaurant located in along Jupiter in Makati. I love the atmosphere of the place. It makes you really feel that you are dining in Mediterranean theme because of the interior design. What impressed was that the owners made the interiors themselves. The wall art in one area was done by the students with only their own hands. The music playing in the background is entirely Portuguese. There were already articles about the place. One magazine article includes O'sonho as one of the 10 best restaurants in Metro Manila. Let us explore and discover that for ourselves.

We were asked what drinks we would like to have, I asked for the Peppermint tea in a fishbowl. The tea in a fishbowl is good for two so I ordered it because they have no unlimited ice tea and I can see why. The bowl was bigger than I thought. O'sonho owner Ms. Cris was orienting us about O'sonho. Ms.Cris said that there are customers who don't like the peppermint because of it's minty taste but I like it. The alternative for peppermint is lemon.
Peppermint tea in fishbowl
Our first course was the Caldo Verde, a famous Portuguese vegetable soup. I like it's thickness and you can ask the waiter to grind fresh pepper in the soup. The Caldo Verde costs P180.00. Our next course was the appetizers. We tried the Chourico sisig, an O'sonho creation. Unlike the regular sisig, it has no internal organs of pork and it is much helthier since it was cooked in olive oil for only P210.00. Our next appetizer was the Portuguese Chourico, a Portuguese sausage served with spices for P260.00(solo) or P440.00(Sharing). These appetizers can be also taken as a viand if you order rice.
Chourico Sisig
For the main course, I started with the Salmon. The O'sonho Salmon is glazed with savory sauce of soybean paste, served with daikon pickled relish and herb rice. I also tried the Fish Fillet in Safron Broth, a new dish.with leeks, shallots and mixed bell peppers.
Salmon
The  Peri Peri Chicken Pasta is considered the bestseller at O'sonho. It is only served with sun-dried tomatoes, herb-based dressing and tossed in tagliatelle in olive oil. The serving is so simple yet very delicious and healthy.
Peri Peri Chicken Pasta
They also serve herbal tea in a pot. You can see from the pot that they are really herbs not instant tea. I was already full but I really had to try the desserts like the Java Toblerone Sansrival, Sorvete Frito or Fried Ice Cream, and the Tres Leches.
Java Toblerone Sansrival
Portuguese dishes are originally home cooking according to Ms. Cris but in O'sonho, they made it more presentable in a fine dining setting. O'sonho is located on 20 Jupiter street, Bel-Air, Makati (Tel. No. 470-9210/470-1768) and Ground Floor. 1880 Building New Eastwood Mall, Bagumbayan, Quezon City(Tel. No. 519-1148/896-3289). They also deliver "twoanyone" by dialing 2121212.

Barbecue Ham by Reyes Barbecue

Barbecue Ham upon delivery
Last Monday, I got a package at home delivered by Reyes Barbecue's PR agency. It includes a tumbler from City Delivery(87878) and a barbecue ham from Reyes Barbecue. We tried it earlier for breakfast after we cooked it up a little. It was kinda sweet with the same barbecue taste which I cannot be certain whether it's the sweet sauce or the ham itself. But nevertheless, it made my breakfast worthwhile. It was good with pandesal.

New York Pizza Palace

If there's one thing I would like to try to eat in the United States is an all-American pizza for it's larger size. I found out that the only authentic pizza in the U.S. known for its Italian taste can only be found in New York. That's were the story of the New York Pizza Palace begins.
Mr. Eric Orland, CEO of NYPP

We were welcomed by Mr. Eric Orland, CEO of NYPP at their main branch in Makati. We made introductions along with the rest of the NYPP team. Mr. Orland has been planning the business in Asia. His first target market was the Chinese community but  ended up in the near the commercial district in Makati. Mr. Orland believes that the Philippines as the best location not only for its marketing potential but also because our customer services has quality that you can't find anywhere else.
Mr. Orland and the NYPP team

The next step taken for NYPP is bringing New York setting in the Philippines. They had to bring an interior designer from abroad to design the place with the theme that will make you feel you're in New York. The walls are decorated with the sights of New York. In one area, there's a gallery of individual famous Italian New Yorkers. Not only that, the floor is designed with the actual road surface from past to present. There's also a video livefeed directly from New York and the actual update of New York Stock Exchange in the ceiling. They even have a video highlighting scenes of New York from the movies like the Godfather trilogy, Donnie Brosco and every hour the music video of Empire State of Mind. The personnel are dressed with a New York Yankee jersey with DiMaggio written at the back.

If that doesn't entice you yet, the food will. Nowadays, pizza parlors have a machine to make the pizza before being put to the oven. NYPP still does pizza the old way:By hand. NYPP guarantees the fresh pizza made by hand the moment you place your order at the counter. There are also signature choices of toppings that are only available here. Besides pizza there are also pastas, salads and appetizers to choose from. The appetizers are also quite a mouthful when you get to try it. The "Suppli" (Mini Rce Balls) is something to try for only PhP130.00. The Chicken Wings are served with their own winger sauce and celery sticks for only PhP215.00(6 pieces).

The good thing about the New York Pizza Palace is that they will not make it available for franchise for the good reasons but they will agree to have other branches as long as they will make the decisions for it's operations. The New York Pizza Palace is located in A. Venue along Makati avenue and it will serve as it's model branch for potential outlets to follow. For deliveries, call 720-5977 with the minimum order of P350.00
