Goldilocks Cake Deco Expo

It was my first time to attend Goldilocks' Cake Deco Expo. I just found out that they are doing it for three years already. My sister also told me that her alma mater, College of Saint Benilde, has been winning in cake competitions like these. Upon entering it at SMX Convention Center, the first thing I saw are mostly cakes on display. Some are for weddings, some are for birthdays. There are also themed birthday cakes and cupcakes that follows the Angry Birds hype.
One of the cake exhibits

There is also an exhibition of finishing a towering birthday cake a child would love. There are also designated activity areas for everyone in the whole family to enjoy. From designing your own mini-cake or participating in workshops. But the main event of the whole expo was the inter-collegiate cake competition from different universities and colleges.
Fun activity for kids

The competition was on the spot. The competing campuses were given a theme and what are they are going to use an hour before the actual competition. The theme was birthday and they are going to use cupcakes. Not just one cake but two. One for the boy and one for the girl. They were given one hour and thirty minutes to finish the cake including clearing up the area and they are not allowed to waste any ingredients they already got.

They will be judge according to creativity, appearance, technique, and use of materials. What I didn't expect that the cakes were starting to form nicely. There were many shapes and sizes and it was hard to imagine that these were mostly cupcakes. After one hour and thirty minutes, the judges were starting to look at each cake entry.
Lyceum of the Phils. Laguna, overall champion

Besides choosing the best cake for the subcategories for the best birthday cake for a boy and for a girl, the competition was won by Lyceum of the Phils. Laguna. Pinky Yee, Goldilocks Marketing Director, said that this is not only to make the campuses compete but only to help students to showcase their talents it cake decorating because someday, we will see them designing cakes for Goldilocks. I look forward to see next year's Goldilocks Cake Deco Expo.

WFP RECEIVES GENEROUS DONATION FROM PIZZA HUT & TACO BELL FOR SENDONG SURVIVORS AND PROGRAMMES IN MINDANAO

MANILA – Through the Yum! Brands World Hunger Relief campaign, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants in the Philippines have contributed Php 6.1 million (US$144,000) to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for its activities in Mindanao. The donation will support the on-going relief and early recovery operation for victims of Tropical Storm Washi (Sendong) and school meals programme in conflict-affected areas of central Mindanao.

“We are deeply impressed with the dedication of Pizza Hut and Taco Bell staff who actively promoted the World Hunger Relief campaign in their restaurants, and in the process raised generous support to help fight hunger,” said WFP Philippines Country Director and Representative Stephen Anderson. “We are also grateful that they extended their campaign to seek additional assistance for Tropical Storm Washi survivors.”

About 155 Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants, which are part of the Yum! Brands chain, collected donations throughout the country during a campaign from November 2011 to January 2012. As part of the campaign, Taco Bell donated Php 10 to WFP from each purchase of a special meal dedicated to supporting school meals programmes. Contributions were also collected in nationally distributed donation boxes.

Customers who donated Php 40 or more received a Christmas postcard featuring World Hunger Relief Volunteer Ms. Venus Raj, who is a Department of Social Welfare and Development Ambassador for Poor Children’s Rights and Welfare.

“We are very proud of our Pizza Hut and Taco Bell employees, and thank our customers whose efforts allowed us to exceed our campaign goals,” said Pizza Hut and Taco Bell Philippines Chief Operating Officer Lars Peterson. “This means more Tropical Storm Washi survivors will receive much-needed assistance, and more school children will benefit from WFP school meal programmes.”

Last year, Pizza Hut donated Php 4.5 million to WFP to support the school meals programme in Central Mindanao, which provided 450,000 meals for 80,000 primary schoolchildren. School meals encourage children to attend school and help them to learn better when they get there. By providing children with the food they need to develop their physical and intellectual potential, school meals act as an important investment in the next generation and help to break the cycle of poverty and hunger.

The World Hunger Relief campaign raises both awareness and funds for WFP’s most urgent hunger needs, especially school meals programmes. Since its launch in 2007, World Hunger Relief has raised nearly US$85 million for WFP and other hunger-fighting organizations, providing more than 350 million meals and saving the lives of millions of people in 39 countries.

CBD(Cheesesteaks, Burgers And Drinks)

Burgers and Shakes are usually served in American diners where good food are combined with good company. Diners are usually a place where people hang out especially young people in United States. You can see that in American movies.

CBD( Cheesesteaks, Burgers and Drinks) offers that same atmosphere in Metro Manila's business district. Located in Ayala Triangle Park for a year already, it is an ideal place since most commuters drop off the area and it is the only area in Makati that has most trees than anywhere else in Ayala.

What I like about their food is that it is not fast food type. The food is freshly prepared after ordering so it will only take few minutes to wait. The burgers are unique and quite heavy. If you are a light eater, you can share it with someone. I got to finish two types of burgers because some of my fellows are light eaters. The cheeseburger is what I ordered and the light eaters gave me slices of their burgers.  I forgot the other burger that was I also finished. The burgers comes with chips that you can munch along. I got to try the the buffalo wings which is also a delicious side dish. But the most unique here are the shakes. The variations are actually flavors of the fancy cakes. I ordered the blueberry shake and I was told that it is their bestseller of all the shakes.

CBD also served rice meals for those who still favors our staple food than bread. They also serve beers both local and imported brands. The price range may not be cheap for the masses but the food is worth it. CBD opens daily from 11:00AM to 10:00PM and they also deliver within Ayala vicinity. Like CBD on Facebook.
