I got to try these treats during a food tasting event at Figaro. I tried two kinds of brownies. A regular brownie and a Christmas themed brownie. This brownie is kinda unique because of it's mint topping if you don't mind a strong minty taste but for me I enjoyed it.

Sandwich Heroes: Eating A Sandwich Can Make A Difference
Growing up, I was trained to finished my meals without leaving not even a piece of rice unless there's a bone or peel from a fruit. There are many reasons why I was being told: "Farmers worked hard for it", "it shouldn't be wasted" and "somewhere in the globe, there are people dying because of hunger". Emphasis on the last one.
Sadly, these are one of the problems that we usually see in the news. At the request of our government, World Food Programme or WFP addresses the needs for food security needs in conflict-stricken areas in Mindanao. But WFP is not just concerned with the food programme but also building up communities for social awareness.
According to facts provided by WFP, hunger kills more people than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. Ratio is 1:7 people(adults and children) worldwide goes to bed hungry each night. In the Philippines, it's 1:9.
Unilever Philippines, who distributes popular names in grooming and food products such as Knorr, Lipton, Dove, Vaseline, Sunsilk, Creamsilk and Ponds, joins WFP against hunger and has been involved with the campaign in many occasions.. Unilever's business unit, Unilever Food Solutions, takes care of food services division that handles food services done in hotels, restaurants and caterers. This makes a good avenue for starting the campaign. WFP and Unilever launched the campaign, Sandwich Heroes.
With this campaign, WFP and Unilever will make a difference and lessen hunger in hard-to-reach areas in ARMM, Maguindanao, Lanao Del Norte, Lanao Del Sur and Sultan Kudarat. It only takes ten pesos to provide a good, decent meal for a small child. You can also take part and make a difference. There will be featured sandwiches in participating establishments: Bigg's Diner, Cibo, The Coffee Experience, CoffeeBreak, Figaro, HotShots, JD Bakeshop, KFC, Mushroomburger, The Flying Pig, Holy Cow, The Sandwich Guy, and Wham! Burgers. For updates and information, like WFP-Phils. on Facebook.

ASEAN COFFEE GROUP TO MEET IN PHILS.
![]() |
| COFFEE ADVOCATES led by Philippine Coffee Board Inc directors lead the ceremonial unveiling of the commitment to host the ASEAN Coffee Federation meeting in February 2012 in Manila. |
The 5th Regional meeting of the Asean Coffee Federation will be held in Manila on February 17 and 18, 2012. The past four meetings of the year-old confederation have been held in Pattaya, Laos, Singapore and the last one was in Bangkok, Thailand just last September. The Philippines was represented by Nicholas A. Matti, Chair of the Philippine Coffee Board, Inc (PCBI) and Emmanuel U.Torrejon, President of the Specialty Coffee Association of the Philippines(SCAP).
The event will be announced to the coffee industry during the opening of the COFFEE ORIGINS 2011 festival on October 7 at 6 pm at the Greenbelt 5 Gallery, Ayala Center. National Competitiveness Council Chair Guillermo M. Luz (who is a founder of the PCBI) will deliver the inspirational talk during the opening.
Everyone but everyone who is in the coffee business will be witness to a “signing ceremony” where the coffee stakeholders will sign their commitment and support for the ASEAN Coffee Federation. The formation of this body for coffee is timely as 2015 is fast approaching and coffee producers, importers and exporters will no longer pay tariffs and will make it an even playing field for all Asean member countries.
The Philippines continues to encourage its farmers to meet the domestic demand of 65000 MT as production levels have remained at the 30000MT level for many years now. If we do not plant more coffee, we may lose our competitiveness in the region.
The PCBI is at the forefront of the coffee initiatives from the private sector. PCBI chair Matti was recently appointed as Committee on Coffee chair in the Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food Inc. while PCBI director Joel Lumagbas is also appointed as a Trustee of the policy advocacy organization.
Meanwhile, Pacita Juan, President of the PCBI has been asked to join the International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) to represent women coffee farmers and women-owned coffee businesses. Juan will gather all women groups in coffee through her network of NGOs and Microfinance partner organizations.
