Pansit Puti

It was my mom who first introduced me to Pansit Puti. She took home some excess from work when she orders for the office she was working at. Ever since, it became one of my favorites. I even requested it on one birthday.

Recently, I discovered a friend of mine was related to the owners of the popular Pansit Puti. When I found out that it was located in Makati, I was telling my friend how my mom and I are fond of it. She was telling me that it was an original recipe of her grandmother.

Pansit Puti is unlike any pansit. Despite Its white color, it is rich in taste. Since I am a Lucbanin, I also prefer pansit with vinegar and I can put it in a pansit puti because it also has pork meat. It is also served best with a puto. LSS Fast Food also makes puto can be eaten separately and it’s flavorful unlike any puto.

NGC Dares You To Be Street Smart

Filipinos like eating street food. It’s rare for a Filipino who doesn’t eat street food.  But what we should be cautious of is what we gain after we eat the food. National Geographic Channel is bringing the Philippine food scene to cable TV in Street –Smart, a documentary that features food in different places and people.
Show host Mitzi Borromeo with RJ Ledesma

Mitzi Borromeo guides you to places as she explores food in the context of a Filipino. In the pilot episode, “Sinisintang Pinoy” (Beloved Food), tackles not only what you gain from the food but also ask people what they crave the most and features three people in their respective food cravings and test them if they really benefited from their ideal food nutritionally.
Street-Smart Press Launch

Watching the episode is not the usual documentary. Mitzi made it fun and educational at the same time with her comical acts and down-to-earth approach which the masses can relate. The only catch is that you need to have a cable TV service that has NGC. Watch Street-Smart exclusively on NatGeo.

Drink And Be Merry For A Cause

Drinking wine is more than just lifting wine spirits. It also involves socializing. Here's one wine event that can also help a cause. Here's the details in their press material:

Drink Wine, Be Merry, Make Children Smile

A Wine & Cheese Tasting and Workshop will be held at the Wack Wack Golf & Country Club in Mandaluyong City on May 19 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.  This event is for the benefit of the children in Smokey Mountain, and is organized by the Project Oasis team from Junior Chamber International (JCI) – Manila Chapter.

For a minimal amount of just 500 pesos, participants of the event can learn from wine experts from Sommelier Selections.  There will be three batches for the workshop, which will teach everyone how to taste, serve and store wine.  Guests can try a variety of wines and cheeses at the event and learn how to pair wine with food, as well as recognize the different grape varieties.  The wines that will be featured are not commercial wines, but are only traditional, organic wines from private first-class vineyards.  A dinner buffet will also be served throughout the evening.

The organizers will be using the proceeds generated from this event for their project to build a park and playground in Smokey Mountain.  During the evening, there will be a short performance from a choir of 15 children from Smokey Mountain, as well as a pledge drive to help promote their cause.  In addition, for every bottle of wine purchased, half of the profits will be donated to Project Oasis.

It is the goal of the group to convert a 1,000 square meter area of Smokey Mountain into a beautiful and clean environment for the children of Smokey Mountain to play in, while also encouraging them to develop their social and motor skills, stay away from gangs, and simply enjoy their youth.

Project Oasis, along with JCI Manila, would like to invite everyone to join this event, learn a thing or two about wine, meet new friends, and most important of all, help out in a worthy and noble cause in uplifting the lives of the children in Smokey Mountain!

Waffle Time

Waffle Time Cart
The waffles of Waffle Time is one of my favorite snack. Not only it's heavier than other snacks, you can be assured it's healthy an it's not a junk food. What I appreciate about Waffle Time is that it lives up it's name because they are available not only at malls but also at MRT/LRT stations. Sometimes, I get hungry after standing in the train and struggling in the lines makes you stressed and hungry. Not all snacks can satisfy hunger like waffles because it's more solid and it's made fresh on the day itself..
Although waffles are originally from Western influence, Waffle Time's first cart started 1998 in Iloilo with two variants:cheese and hotdog. After 7 branches, Waffle Time expanded 2002 in Manila. Now, Waffle Time has sixteen variants to choose from with 432 branches nationwide and 8 in Indonesia. What's great is that it won't cost you much since it prices ranges from P10-20 per waffle depending on the variant which makes it reasonable.
New Packaging

The sixteen variants of choices are the following: Among the Savory filled are American Hotdog, Cheese Delite, Tuna Salad, German Cheese Franks, Ham & Cheese, Canadian Bacon, Spicy Chickendog. The Sweet filled are Mango Magic, Pineapple Pleasure,Belgian Choco, Swiss Chocolate, Ultimate Ube, Bavarian Cream, Very Blueberry, Strawberry Surprise, and Choc-nut.

You too can make Waffle Time your business opportunity as a franchisee. You can inquire at www.waffletime.com or e-mail customerservice@waffletime.com or call 0922-8923385 or 0920-9622389

Pao Pao Xiao Chi

Taro Milk Tea with Pearl
Milk teas are popular here in the Philippines and they are available almost at any mall. But not all milk teas there are natural. Most are artificial flavored that imitates the actual flavor. It was only when I was invited at Pao Pao Xiao Chi in Barangay Little Baguio, San Juan City when I was introduced to a natural milk tea. Pao pao means "very full" and Xiao Chi means "small snacks".
Puddings

Milk teas are originally from Taiwan. All that you can see from the menu are original Taiwanese. Besides the milk teas, the food are also Taiwan originals. The specialty milk teas are served with the familiar black pearl or better known to us as "sago". You can also order pudding or other add-ons of your choice in your milk tea.
Milk Tea Frappe

The choices for milk teas are Taro, Coffee, Chocolate, Almond, Jasmine Milk Green Tea, and Yakult with Green Tea. They also have Fruits Teas like Green Apple, Lychee, Kiwi, Champagne Grapes, Orange Lemon, Honeydew Lemon, Mixed Fruit, Strawberry, Mulberry and Honey Peach. My favorite has always been Taro but the Yakult flavor is a must try. They only use natural sweetness for the specialty drinks, not sugar so these are also considered health drinks. They also made frappe milk teas here.
Yakult Milk with Green Tea

I also love the fried snacks of Paopao. There's the spicy squid, chicken, pork, and wings. There's a fun way to enjoy these snacks. Try them in a special paper bags and put some flavored powder like Red Chili, Lemon, Orange, Yellow Curry, Seaweed, Black Sesame, Wasabe, Kimchi and Green Tea. Fold the paper bag to seal the opening and shake it. Other snacks that you can enjoy are the glazed potatoes and steamed or fried dumplings.
Fried dumplings

The meals are the best part. They have rice toppings and noodles. I can say that they are mouthful heavy meals. Paopao Xiao Chi is located in 17 Gen. de Jesus corner Gen. Lim streets, Brgy. Little Baguio, San Juan. There also branches in 999 Mall Food Court in Divisoria and St. Jude Catholic School. The Paopao Xiao Chi Management guarantees that they are DEHP-free and are safe for consumption.with certification from Taiwan Bureau of Food and Drugs.
